Hi all just found this site and as i am looking for a good condition Kadett Coupe thought someone on here may be able to help. I have owned a few Opels over the years and have a yearning for another Kadett. I used to have a GTE a lot of years ago registered XBM602S and wondered if one of you own it or know its wereabouts as it is still on the road as i have checked. I live in the Durham area are there any members in this area.

Went and had a look at the blue coupe that was on ebay yesterday. Good floor and inner wings the boot floor needed a bit of work but the car was fairly solid. Made good money i thought but i'm out of touch with the current prices, how much would a good one go for with a MOT.

Sold the GTE over 20 years ago and always regretted it. According to DVLA website it is currently taxed. I bought it from a guy in Bishop Auckland Co Durham but I was an apprentice mechanic at the time and could not afford to run it. I sold it to a opel enthusiast i think as they were driving a Manta A when they came to pick it up. The only details i have is the reg XBM602S.

there was a nice red untouched coupe for sale on pistonheads, was on for about £3000 £3500 if i remember correctly was for sale for a while so thats about top money i would say for coupe,
i would have had it if it was orange/yellow early coupe.

prices are a tough one because they hardly come up for sale these days. and if like me, you prefer original needing maybe a little work(so you know whats underneath and how good it is) then you could spend a year or two waiting for the right one. the youngest ones are now 30 years old after all.
The other problem with getting a rough kadett is if you then need doors or certain other parts. they're just not as plentiful as say, escorts.
If you can't wait forever, watch german ebay regularly. you'll soon find one. then all you need is the right hand drive parts off a scrapper. but be warned, they're asking prices can be steep.
In my opinion, a half decent, complete coupe goes for a minimum of a grand. i know a couple of people that would snap them up if they could get one for any less!

I would rather buy an original car that needed work rather than a painted up good looking car as i am fussy about the standard of the previous repairs. I am good at repairing cars and have a mig and tig welder. Over the years i have built a lot of vehicles including prototypes, trucks, cars and my current build is a Spondon motorcycle. I am in no rush to find a good car but my current project is taking up most of my free time so i would like to finish this first before i start modifying a kadett. I would like a solid car that i could get up to MOT standard fairly quickly and use as a rolling restoration. I've been looking into buying a Manta or Ascona and considered a BMW but my hearts set on a Kadett and since i usually keep my vehicles for quite a lot of years i may as well buy the car i really want. I think I'l just wait until the right car comes along as i am in no rush to purchase but i can start to look now and see what comes along. One of the members on here might here of a good car or see it advertised in their area and if it is of no use to them let me know.

Hi there, I thought you were going to go for the blue one after you went to see it too. It went for alot, but its the first one Ive seen in ages come up. Maybe theres so few left now thats the price we are gonna have to pay? Im going to be selling mine maybe towards the end of the year. Im undecided as to the extent of work Im prepared to do on it myself as yet. Its apparently so rare that Ive got to keep it standard which is a bit boring for me, but never mind I can always get another I'll let you know when Im selling it.

The blue Kadett was a really solid car apart from the boot floor and i just missed out on it. There were over 260 watchers on that car. I have worked in garages for over 20 years but now repair vehicles for the MOD so dont get any bargains anymore. All me mates are mechanics and MOT testers I'l put the word out to them and see if anything pops up. Thanks for everyones input so far and i think you will find the forum will grow quite quickly.

The last one i saw on ebay before the blue one, was a dark blue one like Aly's......it even had the full wax-oil treatment in the engine bay like Aly's...........but unlike his it needs quite a lot of work, front panel was shot, rear arches, sills etc and from memory it sold for £980. I think that makes £1170 seem pretty reasonable, it would appear it's the 'ish' going rate for a reasonable sold Kadett C. The blue one did seem pretty good, I was even more suprised to see what the smashed up one went for as it didn't come with the engine, box etc and i don't think it mentioned what axle it was running, i'm guessing still the 1.2 axle......good for acceleration All i need to do now is dig out all my old Opel mags and start phoning the old 'for sale' adds.....

Thanks for the offer Paul but i am looking for a car i can get on the road quickly as i am in the middle of building a Spondon Turbo that i must finish first before taking on any other projects. If i have not found a car (no rush) when this project is completed i can then consider a car needing more work.
