Got a 1979 coupe last night. Needs a bit of work but basically solid. Fitted manta 1.8 ohc & 5 speed , spax shocks , GTE Manta wheels , GTE front springs (too hard) , cross drilled disks , sills and floor never welded . The shell was an auto so it has the big tunnel. Its had a couple of patches to the body , the inner wings have been welded the bottom of the wings are holed but for a 30 year old motor its good. Engine and box are sweet. I reckon a good weekends work and it should pass a MOT. It needs a interior as it just has bucket seats and the chrome trim from the front and back screens is missing so i'l keep alook out for these while i run it. Plan is to get it on the road so i can run it this summer. Will post pics when i suss out how to and when i have taken some.

Standard axle from the auto the guy told me. How do you tell if its an auto shell is it by the number stamped in the boot floor as its a 4 and i thought auto shells were 13. The car came up on ebay and i snapped it up as it was a buy it now. Saved a bit of money with it already having a 5 speed and the big wing sump cos its manta mechanics. Plan of attack is just to run it and sort out the body then maybe in the future a 20ne engine with microsquirt ECU suzuki gsxr throttle bodies and garret or mitsubushi turbo with uprated gearbox and axle.

13 only on lhd autos, not sure on number fitted to rhd auto,
auto shell will have noticeable bulge on passengers side tunnel on side,
plan sounds good,

I'l have a look at the tunnel tommorow. It was a 200 mile journey for the car as it came from Kettering. Give £1000 for it. There was a anti-roll bar in the boot with another set of springs. The bar has the dip in it like a GTE bar but its probably a Manta item. Its got very stiff springs on the front and standard rears so it has that jacked up look so i will have to sort out the correct spring rates and heights

thats why the axle looks wrong,
i used to live in kettering a couple of years back, i looked at a kadett in the same colour. nearly bought it has in got after market steering wheel with a bit of dish?
what put me off was he had left some fertilizer in the boot and the whole car stunk, would have cleared by now.
have you link to listing still?

Yeah has that steering wheel. The guy had the car since 2002. No smell now. The axle doesnt look wrong when parked on level ground but the suspension is too high as it has new standard springs on the rear but what looks like lowered springs on the front. There's another set of springs with the car but i have no idea what rate or height. Does anyone have any advice on the springs to use with the current engine set up. I see space kadets car uses the OHC engine.
